Winterfest Weekend

Join us for a winter weekend filled with snowy fun for the whole family, February 17 & 18, 2024!

Recently featured in Budget Travel's, "Plan an Epic Winter Vacation to the Rocky Mountains", YMCA of the Rockies, Estes Park Center is located on 800+ acres with three sides bordering Rocky Mountain National Park, providing the perfect landscape for outdoor enthusiasts and families to explore.

Winterfest Weekend, February 17 & 18, 2024 

Happening all weekend:

  • Snowman making contest 
    • Stop by the Boone Family Mountain Center to enter the contest, then build your snowman on the Administration Building field. Voting for favorite snowman will take place in the Boone Family Mountain Center and Sweet Memorial Program Building. The winner will be awarded on Sunday afternoon!
  • Winter themed scavenger hunt
    • Pick up and return a scavenger hunt card to the Boone Family Mountain Center. Everyone who returns a scavenger hunt card gets a prize from the treasure chest!
  • Hot cocoa-mobile
    • Warm up with a steaming cup of hot cocoa from our complimentary hot cocoa-mobile!

Schedule of Events:

Saturday, February 17

  • 8:30 am: Snowshoe Hike
    • Explore Rocky Mountain National Park in the winter time with one of our experienced Hike masters!
  • 9 am: Snow Ecology Hike
    • Learn about the Rocky Mountains in the wintertime and how climate is affecting winter in the mountains and plant and animal adaptations to winter conditions while hiking through Moraine Park. 3.5 miles, 400 feet elevation gain, 3 hours long. 
  • Time TBD: Ice Cream Making
    • Learn how to make your own ice-cream using common household items.
  • Time TBD: Snowball capture the flag
    • Combine your snowball fight strategy to the classic game of capture the flag. Instead of running and tagging opponents, we’ll be throwing snowballs! Anyone hit is sent to jail. First team to find the flag and return it to their side without being hit by a snowball, wins!
  • Time TBD: Snowflake making
    • Using simple materials and techniques, participants will learn how to fold and cut paper to create their own snowflake paper crafts. This program is perfect for anyone who loves the magic of snowflakes and paper crafting.
  • Time TBD: Climbing 101 
    • Learn the basics of indoor rock climbing, including special knots all climbers should know, basic climbing form, belaying techniques and route difficulty settings. Geared towards beginners. Must be age 10 or older. Fees apply.

Sunday, February 18

  • 8:30 am: Snowshoe Hike
    • Explore Rocky Mountain National Park in the winter time with one of our experienced Hike masters!
  • 9 am: Intro to Snowshoeing 
    • 2 hours in length, includes class session (30 minutes) and snowshoeing excursion on Y property (1.5- 2 miles). Learn about winter preparedness, different types of snowshoes and when to use them and, proper form while wearing snowshoes. 
  • Time TBD: Snowball capture the flag
    • Combine your snowball fight strategy to the classic game of capture the flag. Instead of running and tagging opponents, we’ll be throwing snowballs! Anyone hit is sent to jail. First team to find the flag and return it to their side without being hit by a snowball, wins!
  • Time TBD: Snowflake making
